Description of Webinar

Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who fear returning to their home country may be able to obtain lawful status in the United States by applying for gender-based asylum. If the survivor is successful in her application for asylum, she will be authorized to live and work in this country; subsequently apply to become a lawful permanent resident; and eventually become a U.S. citizen. This webinar is designed to help advocates and attorneys not trained in immigration law identify when a survivor might be eligible for gender-based asylum and  how to support a survivors and attorneys working with survivors develop the evidentiary record necessary to succeed in bringing a gender-based asylum claim. The webinar will provide tools and information to help advocates and attorneys understand how gender-based asylum cases differ from VAWA, T and U visas.

Webinar materials will include links to practice tools, resources, and training materials, to better assist you in your work with immigrant survivors. This is an interactive webinar in which attendees will be encouraged to participate and ask questions.
